Organized by the Gender Awareness and Development (GAD) Committee to celebrate Women’s Month, NAMRIA held its first ever Short Film-Making Competition at the NAMRIA Lecture Hall on 31 March 2017. The theme for the competition is “We Make Change Work for Women” wherein all participants must be able to depict the strength of women; how they face current issues and challenges; and how they have or can overcome them. The competition has accepted only one entry per branch.
Pre-judging of the entries was held a day earlier, 30 March 2017, at the NAMRIA Board Room attended by the production team of each branch. Composing the panel of judges are Deputy Administrators Efren P. Carandang and Jose C. Cabanayan Jr.; and Indie film director and writer Jose Maria L. Ramirez, famous for her work in “Chapter X” (2017), “Psychonaut” (2016), “Pahimakas (The Last Fairwell)” (2016), and “Visions” (2016).

The winners of the contest were chosen based on the following criteria: Relevance to the theme – 40%; Style and Creativity – 30%; and Composition and Originality – 30% for a total of 100%. The entry by MGB entitled “Fieldwork” placed 1st followed by SSB’s “There is Life after NAMRIA” and lastly, GISMB’s entry entitled “Single Mom”. RDAB’s “Bes Napusuan Mo na Ba?” and HB’s “We Make Change Work for Women” both received consolation prizes.
