Training of Tide Observers from Visayas and Mindanao held

NAMRIA Tide Observers from the Visayas and Mindanao regions successfully completed the Training in the Collection of Physical Properties of the Ocean (Temperature, Salinity, and Density) at the Crown Regency Hotel and Towers, Cebu City, Cebu last 9-11 May 2017. The training was in line with the Hydrography Branch’s (HB’s) capacity enhancement of their tide observers. This is in coordination with the Support Services Branch (SSB) - Administrative Division thru the Human Resource Development Section.  The 25 tide observers were welcomed by HB Director Commodore Jacinto M. Cablayan. He also delivered the inspirational message of NAMRIA Administrator Dr. Peter N. Tiangco. Mr. Claro R. Cagigas, Jr., Port Manager of Office 4 (Pier 1) of Cebu Port Authority, was guest of honor for that event.

A series of lectures followed afterwards with resource persons from the Physical Oceanography Division (POD): POD Chief Dennis B. Bringas,  Norelius G. Baloran, Shelmark S. Peñafranda, Jan Bryan O. Navarro, Raul Capistrano,  and Armando B. Amolo.

On the second day,  there were demonstrations and exercises on the use of thermometers and hydrometers at Cebu Primary Tide Station at the Cebu Port.

The last day focused on the presentation of NAMRIA Programs and Policies Update, an open forum, and a learning exposure and team engagement activity.

Captain Herbert L. Catapang, Assistant Director, HB brought the training program to a close with his message encouraging the participants to continue providing accurate and reliable oceanographic data. Certificates of completion and special citations were awarded during the closing ceremonies.
