NAMRIA joins first-ever National Land Summit

NAMRIA, through its Administrator, Dr. Peter N. Tiangco, CESO I joined the first-ever National Land Summit organized by the Land Management Bureau (LMB) of the Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR) at the Manila Hotel, Manila on 16-17 January 2018.

The National Land Summit aimed to showcase best practices in Land Administration and Management (LAM). The summit also supports Agenda Number Six (6) of the Ten-Point Socio-economic agenda of President Rodrigo R. Duterte which is to “Ensure security of land tenure to encourage investments and address bottlenecks in land management and titling agencies.”

The summit has three objectives: (1) Harmonize efforts and strengthen linkages of LAM agencies and the private sectors participation. Identify emerging issues and best practices addressing LAM, (2) Determine course of action in achieving and pursuing Agenda Number 6 of the Ten-Point Socioeconomic Agenda of the Duterte Administration, (3) Showcase the benefits of a secured land tenure.

On Day 2 of the event, during the breakout sessions, Administrator Tiangco presented the Philippine Geoportal System: One Nation, One Map. The Philippine Geoportal is a web-based application launched by NAMRIA in 2014 to hold and make available to the participating stakeholders all the base maps that the agency produces together with all the fundamental and thematic datasets of other data producing agencies. Mr. Melvin O. Perez, Computer Programmer III of the Geospatial Systems Development Division (GSDD), conducted the online demonstration of the Philippine Geoportal.

The National Land Summit was also joined by different National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, and private entities. At the end of the summit, the Declaration of Commitment to address the bottlenecks in land administration and other public lands not placed under the jurisdiction of other government agencies was presented. The Declaration of Commitment bears the fingerprints of the participants of the summit. It will be presented to President Rodrigo R. Duterte by DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu.
