By: Jeffrey Quodala

In line with the implementation of the NAMRIA Volunteerism Program, the agency's Bayanihang Bayan Desk (BBD) participated in the Brigada Eskwela (BE) 2018 activities of the Department of Education (DepEd). On 01 June 2018, NAMRIA donated cleaning materials and pre-loved educational books to two public elementary schools: Gen. Maximino Hizon Elementary School (GMHES) and Kapt. Jose Cardones Memorial Elementary School (KJCMES). GMHES is located at Jose Abad Santos Avenue, Barangay 254, Tondo, Manila City; while KJCMES is located at #19 Friendship Street, Barangay South Signal Village, Taguig City.

The donations were gladly received by the following school officials: GMHES principal, Ms. Eleodora B. Vergara and BE coordinator, Ms. Wilma T. Mallari; and KJCMES BE coordinator, Ms. Generita B. Espiritu. In their respective messages of appreciation to NAMRIA for the donations, both Ms. Vergara and Ms. Espiritu acknowledged the donations to be valuable contributions to the success of their respective schools' BE events.

Now on its 10th year of institutionalization, DepEd’s Brigada Eskwela, also known as National Schools Maintenance Week, has aimed, through the years, to bring together teachers, parents, community members, government offices, and private institutions/individuals to contribute in various resource-generating activities.  This year's BE ran from 28 May to 02 June 2018 with the theme Pagkakaisa para sa Handa, Ligtas at Matatag na Paaralan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan and aimed to seek the support of various stakeholders in contributing services and donations to help make the schools get ready for the opening of classes.
