Hydro Branch empowers UP-DGE students
By: Andy Adeva

The Hydrography Branch (HB) hosted from 08 June to 24 July 2015 the On-the-Job Training Practicum in Engineering of three incoming fifth-year Geodetic Engineering students of the University of the Philippines–Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP-DGE).  The practicum which consists of at least 240 hours is a requirement of the UPD-DGE subject GE 192: Engineering Practicum 2.  The students had their practicum at the HB where they learned the technical aspects of hydrographic surveying and nautical charting.

The training program of the HB for the students included lectures, field survey, and data processing. The lectures were designed to relate the theories the trainees learned in school to the actual survey activities. During their practicum, the students experienced hydrographic survey of Manila Bay with the field survey team of BRP HYDROGRAPHER VENTURA.  The students were also assigned at the different divisions of the HB for them to experience data processing and post-survey activities.
The three students from UPD-DGE are Darryll Dale F. Belongilot, Mary Julienne Joy B. Bongcac, and Clarissa Mae D.R. Braza. The students received their certificate of completion during a ceremony held on 24 July 2015 at the HB Conference Room.
