The Geomatics Training Center (GTC) of the Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) recently conducted an advanced GIS training program using Quantum GIS software. The training was held at the function hall of the La Breza Hotel, Quezon City on 5-9 December 2016.

It was the 5th training activity conducted under the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between NAMRIA and the Local Government Academy (LGA) of the Department of Interior and Local Government. The memorandum covers the conduct of six GIS training programs with participants from different local government units (LGUs) all over the country. For this training program, majority of the participants were from LGUs in Mindanao. The training was designed to build the capability of the participants in the utilization of GIS technology as a vital tool for disaster preparedness, response and rebuilding, climate change adaptation, and other GIS applications related to public administration and governance.

Mr. Elmo L. Dimaano, Local Government Operations Officer V, gave the opening remarks and presented the overview of the training program. He emphasized the importance of GIS technology in their planning and decision making process and other projects such as tax mapping, business licensing, and disaster risk reduction and management program.

On the last day of training,the participants were required to generate a customized map lay-out covering their area, which also served as their final output.
