NAMRIA joined the Kabisig Philippine Government Expo and Trade Fair 2017 held at Abreeza Mall Activity Center, Davao City on 18-20 April 2017. This year’s event is themed “Pamahalaan at Mamayan Magtulungan sa Pagbabago at Kaunlaran.”

The expo is an annual one-stop information exhibit that features different government agencies and instrumentalities. It aims to spread information about the exhibitors’ products, services, and accomplishments.

The Kabisig program organizer is the Kabisig Mindanao Foundation, Inc. The foundation based in Davao City, is headed by its Chairperson and President, Mr. Daniel C. Guillen. The program was created by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 650 series of 1990 by former President Corazon S. Aquino. It institutionalized the Kabisig People’s Movement (KPM) Program, to facilitate, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of government programs and projects. It also provides linkages between and among the private sector groups and the government agencies and instrumentalities.

In his opening remarks for this year’s expo, Davao City Councilor Victorio U. Advincula Jr. read the messages of both Davao City Mayor Sarah Z. Duterte and President Rodrigo R. Duterte. In her message, Mayor “Inday” congratulated and thanked the KPM. She commended the Kabisig for holding the annual event so that the people will be informed and updated about the government’s programs and activities, which is essential in getting their participation and support. She said that the government cannot bring about positive change and development to the country without the help of its people. She also hoped that the expo enables the exhibitors to explore new ways to communicate with its clients so that it can provide better services to the Filipino people.

Meanwhile, the President’s message was about the Kabisig Expo exemplifying the “bayanihan” spirit that lives among us. He said that partnership between the government and the people is a manifestation of our unity that enables us to fulfill our common purpose. He also urged everyone to continue to support each other in fostering participation and cooperation with the people.

The expo was also joined by other government agencies and instrumentalities such as the Bureau of Immigration (BI), Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), Davao City Government, Island Garden City of Samal Government, and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
The NAMRIA exhibit booth was staffed by Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) personnel, namely: Rolando A. Mendoza, Vener Quintin C. Taguba, Jr., and Philip G. Serazon of Geospatial Information Services Division (GISD), and Norman L. Boydon of the Geospatial Systems Development Division (GSDD). The booth displayed different products and services offered by NAMRIA and highlighted some of its accomplishments such as the successful defense of our claim of the Benham Rise to be part of our Extended Continental Shelf to the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf; and the Philippine Geoportal.
