Hydrography Branch celebrates World Hydrography Day in Manila Science High School

In celebration of the World Hydrography Day, the Hydrography Branch conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign to promote the importance of hydrography in the Philippines and encourage senior high school students to pursue engineering and marine science courses.

The event was held at the Manila Science High School (MaSci) auditorium on June 20, 2017 and was attended by around 200 students from Grades 11 and 12.

LCdr Carter S. Luma-ang introduced the World Hydrography Day to the students and discussed about the importance of hydrography. Lt Bai Dyanna G Sinsuat and P/Ens Angelica P. Prado discussed about the products and services of NAMRIA.

The World Hydrography Day was declared by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) to be celebrated on June 21 annually. It aims to increase public awareness of the vital role that hydrography plays in everyone’s lives.

Aside from the discussions with the NAMRIA commissioned officers, MaSci students were also given the chance to see old hydrographic surveying equipment at a mini-exhibit in their school.

The HB officers provided copies of NAMRIA's book on Bajo de Masinloc, Philippine Map, nautical charts of the Philippine Rise and the Kalayaan Island Group, the Philippine-Indonesia Maritime Boundary Delineation Map, and the 200 Year Calendar as a tokens of appreciation.
