NAMRIA is third overall at the PMSEA Bowling Tournament 2017

The team from the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) ranked third in the recently concluded Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) Bowling Tournament. The tournament was held in Puyat Sports Baguio, 5th level Baguio Center Mall, Magsaysay Ave., Baguio City on 22 November 2017. The other participating teams were: Atok Gold Mining Co. (AGMC); Benguet Corporation (BC) Teams A and B; Irisan Lime (Bro. B); Irisan Lime Project (ILP) A-BC; Masbate Gold Project (MGP) Teams 1, 2, and 3; Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regions I and IVA-CALABARZON; Nickle Asia Corporation; Oceanagold Phils. Inc.;  Philex Mining Corporation (PMC); Philippine Society of Mining Engineers (PSEM) Teams Visayas-1 and -2; Sandvik Tamrock Phils. Inc; and Timber and Lime Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
 
The NAMRIA contingent was led by Support Services Branch (SSB) Director Febrina E. Damaso with members Mr. Noel R. Vega, Financial and Management Division Chief, SSB; Mr. Rogelio D. Dais, Jr., Cartographer, of the Mapping and Geodesy Branch (MGB); Ms. Elena A. Reyes, Data Controller, of the Geospatial Information System Management Branch; Ms. Gina M. Varilla, Division Chief, of the DENR-Natural Resources Development Corporation; and Mr. Manuel C. Eloriaga, retired personnel from MGB.

The tournament officially started as MGB Region I personnel Ms. Charlene Gem L. Farro and Ms. May-Ann A. Pimentel led the prayer and the Philippine national anthem, respectively. PSEM-North Luzon Cluster Board Director, Engr. Roel A. Collado, welcomed and acknowledged all the participating teams including last year’s tournament winners; while fellow board director, Engr. Romualdo P. Rosario, led all the teams in the oath of sportspersonship. Engr. Nandry Clae B. Lagman, also from MGB Region I, acted as the emcee of the tournament. Raffle prizes of kitchen appliances were also given away to the delight of all who attended the tournament.

After three intense rounds of competition, Team NAMRIA got 2,076 points and placed third overall. Ms. Varilla also bagged the Highest Women Triple award for scoring 485 points in total. The other winners were PMC, 1st place/Champion (2,112 points); MGP Team 1, 2nd place (2,078 points); BC Team B, 4th place (2,046 points); and ILM A-BC, 5th place (2,018 points).

With the theme “Responsible Mining … In the Hearts and Minds of Filipinos,” the holding of the PMSEA Bowling Tournament is part of the 64th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference where the main objective is the promotion of environmental awareness and doctrine of safety for the preservation and conservation of lives and properties in the mining, quarrying, metallurgical, and allied industries.
