The Education and Research and Special Events Committees of the Organization of NAMRIA Employees (ONE) conducted two batches of Basic Orientation Seminar on Public Sector Unionism (BOS-PSU) on 24 and 25 March 2015 at the NAMRIA Fort Bonifacio lecture hall and NAMRIA Hydrography Branch (HB) conference room, respectively. The conduct of the BOS-PSU is one of the guaranteed rights and privileges of the organization under the ONE-NAMRIA Collective Negotiation Agreement 2014-2017, Article V, Section 28, which states that “NAMRIA and ONE shall conduct trainings or seminars for all employees for the purpose of appraising them on their rights, obligations, and responsibilities under the law and this Agreement.”

ONE President, Dr. Celeste E. Barile delivered the welcome remarks in both batches. She thanked the participants for their attendance and encouraged them to be active members of the organization. ONE First Vice President, Ms. Josefina G. Gaspi; and ONE-HB Representative, Mr. Raul Diosdado C. Abon and ONE Treasurer, Ms. Eva A. Valencia led the opening ceremonies for the first batch on 24 March 2015 and for the second batch on 25 March 2015, respectively.

Mr. Jeffrey A. Quodala, ONE Public Relations Officer, and ONE President Barile acted as resource speakers for the activity. Mr. Quodala discussed the public sector labor situation and concepts of unionism while ONE President Barile presented the profile of the organization with emphasis on the members’ rights, privileges, and benefits; and other activities and projects of the organization. Mr. Quodala also served as the master of ceremony and facilitator for the said activity.

The participants of the first batch were ONE members from the Geospatial Information System Management, Mapping and Geodesy, Resource Data Analysis, and Support Services Branches while the participants of the second batch were from HB.

The holding of a similar activity for ONE members assigned at the NAMRIA multidisciplinary vessels is now being planned.
