Thirty three youth leaders from the National Anti-Poverty Commission Youth and Student Sectoral Council (NAPC-YSSC), together with the coordinators of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-National Capital Region (NCR), visited National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) main office at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City for a guided tour on 15 September 2016.  The youth leaders came from the different regions of the country such as Cordillera Administrative Region, Calamba-Laguna-Batangas-Quezon Region, Mindoro-Marinduque-Romblon-Palawan Region, Central Luzon, Negros Island Region, Cagayan Valley Region, Caraga Administrative Region, and Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. The tour was one of the highlights of NAPC-YSSC’s Third Council Meeting held on 14-16 September 2016, which aimed to have the youth leaders learn more about DENR advocacies and programs towards youth participation in environmental awareness.  The Council was particularly interested about having a learning activity on map appreciation and knowing about geospatial information system.

The tour commenced with a group photo session of the youth leaders and coordinators with NAMRIA Deputy Administrator Jose C. Cabanayan, Jr., Support Services Branch (SSB) Director Febrina E. Damaso, and Administrative Division Chief Concepcion A. Bringas at the main lobby.  Following an audio-visual presentation about NAMRIA and map making process held at the NAMRIA Lecture Hall, the participants visited the mapping facilities of the agency such as those found at the Photogrammetry Division, Cartography Division, Reprography and Printing Division, and the NAMRIA Geomatics Training Center.

The activity was spearheaded by the Geospatial Information Services Division team of the Geospatial Information System Management Branch, namely:  Ms. Elinor C. delos Reyes, Messrs. Joseph C. Estrella, Marlon A. Mariñas, and Jeff N. Hunt, and Ms. Michelle Ann A. Aguilar.  NAMRIA youth coordinators Ms. Zenaida A. Leaño and Ms. Nikki B. Escandor of the SSB, facilitated the conduct of the event.
