NAMRIA 2016 tree planting in Tanay

NAMRIA, in coordination with the Strategic Communication and Initiatives Services of the DENR; the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)-Antipolo City; protected area supervisor; and Barangay (Brgy) Sto. Niño People’s Organization, conducted a tree planting activity in Brgy. Sto. Niño, Tanay, Rizal on 22 October 2016.  Assorted trees were planted along the mountain slopes of the barangay.

NAMRIA employees from the different branches headed by Officer-in-Charge (OIC) ADir Nelson M. de Leon of the Geospatial Information System Management Branch, ADir Ofelia T. Castro of the Mapping and Geodesy Branch, OIC ADirs. Capt. Amante R. Caluya, Jr., and Capt. Herbert L. Catapang of the Hydrography Branch participated in the activity.  The activity is part of the agency’s commitment to support the government’s reforestation initiative and climate change mitigation strategy under the National Greening Program (NGP).
 
The trek -- PHILIP G. SERAZON
 
The NGP is a massive forest rehabilitation program of the government established by virtue of Executive Order No. 26, issued on 24 February 2011 by President Benigno S. Aquino III.  It seeks to grow 1.5 billion trees in 1.5 million hectares nationwide within a period of six years from 2011 to 2016. Areas eligible for rehabilitation under the program include all lands of the public domain, namely: forestlands, mangrove and protected areas, ancestral domains, civil and military reservation, urban greening areas, inactive and abandoned mine sites, and other suitable lands.
