NAMRIA turned over Existing Land Use Maps to the Province of Siquijor and its municipalities; and the Siquijor Provincial Environment and Natural Resource Office (PENRO-Siquijor) on 25-28 October 2022. The maps are outputs of the Participatory Mapping of Existing Land Uses Project (PMELUP) of the Resource Data Analysis Branch (RDAB). PMELUP is a NAMRIA project designed to help the Local Government Units (LGUs) in the implementation of their mandates. These are seen to be useful in resource planning which, in turn, will result in the strengthening of local governance.
NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD supports the PMELUP and is committed to implementing innovative programs like this, which aims to strengthen local governance through the use of geospatial information. He was represented in the turn over activities by DA John Santiago F. Fabic, RDAB Director and GAD Focal Person Ofelia T. Castro, and Geospatial Integration Division (GID)-RDAB Officer in Charge (OIC) Cristina M. Montoya. A total of eight maps were given away, consisting of six municipal maps, and one provincial map each for Siquijor Province and the PENRO-Siquijor. The recipients were also given copies of the Infomapper, NAMRIA's publication on surveys, mapping, and geospatial information management; and Gender and Development (GAD) materials.
