LLDA personnel undergo Basic GIS Training

NAMRIA conducted a Basic GIS Training Course for selected personnel of the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA). A total of 25 technical personnel from the different offices and units of the LLDA participated in the training held on 04-08 July 2022 at the LLDA Building in Quezon City. The activity was implemented under the Memorandum of Agreement between NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD and LLDA General Manager, Mr. Jaime C. Medina. The training course was conducted in adherence to the current health and safety protocols of the government.

The Basic GIS Training Course provided the training participants with skills on geospatial data visualization and analysis to help them solve spatial problems and make smarter decisions in their fields of specialization and office functions. In this course, they learned the fundamental components and capabilities of GIS and discovered how ArcGIS as a tool can help the LLDA and other organizations address their needs in fulfilling their respective mandates.

The training culminated with the participants creating and presenting map layouts across different topics and subject areas within the LLDA. Ms. Catherine L. Buena, Department Manager III of the Management Services Department of the LLDA provided the activity’s closing remarks. Engr. Rosalyn D. Sontillanosa from the NAMRIA Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) served as the resource speaker. Ms. Nilca F. Fabellon and Mr. Manuel V. Lorenzana Jr. were the training assistants while this writer from the NAMRIA Geomatics Training Center provided technical and administrative support. Ms. Fabellon, Mr. Lorenzana, and this writer are all from GISMB.

The LLDA was organized by virtue of Republic Act No. 4850 as a quasi-government agency with regulatory and proprietary functions. Its powers and functions include environmental protection and jurisdiction over the lake basin’s surface water that accelerates the development and balanced growth of the Laguna Lake area in the surrounding provinces, cities, towns, and municipalities. The LLDA is an attached agency of the DENR.
