NAMRIA holds webinar on ENR mapping initiatives in support of climate change adaptation

NAMRIA conducted a webinar in line with the observance of the 2023 National Climate Change Consciousness Week. The event had as its theme, Bayanihan Para sa Klima: Bagong Bansang Matatag. The webinar, entitled "ENR Mapping Initiatives in Support to Climate Change," had the approval of NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD. It was held virtually in Google Meet and livestreamed via the agency's official YouTube channel on 21 November 2023. The activity was attended by NAMRIA officials and employees, employees of national government agencies and local government units, teachers and students from the academe, private sector companies and individuals, and some foreign nationals.
 
The program began with a prayer, which was followed by the opening remarks of Resource Data Analysis Branch (RDAB) Officer in Charge (OIC) Sylvia L. Esperanza. In her message, OIC Esperanza discussed the goals of the webinar and expressed her gratitude to the organizers of the activity. Then there was the showing of the NAMRIA profile audio-visual presentation.

The webinar consisted of lectures on environment and natural resources (ENR) mapping activities of RDAB. The respective lectures of Senior Remote Sensing Technologist Bonifacia B. Daet and Remote Sensing Technologist II Christian Joe J. Soliven were "Land Cover Mapping" and "Coastal Resource Mapping." Ms. Daet and Mr. Soliven are from RDAB's Land Resource Data Analysis Division (LRDAD) and Physiography and Coastal Resource Division (PCRD), respectively. The activity included a question-and-answer portion.
 
In her closing message for the webinar, RDAB Assistant Director Violeta A. Quiliza reminded the attendees that "preserving our planet is a shared responsibility and it is essential to work together hand in hand to achieve a sustainable environment."
 
RDAB OIC Esperanza and Information Officer IV Jeffrey A. Quodala of the Geospatial Information Services Division (GISD)-Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) served as the activity leads for the webinar. They were assisted by an activity management team, with the following as members: LRDAD-RDAB OIC Cornelio S. Tolentino and PCRD-RDAB Chief Aurea O. Virtudazo as coordinators; GISD-GISMB's Jois Roueli O. Ferrer-Yopo and Jeffrey M. Aguillon as host and facilitator and technical staff, respectively; Erwin D. Famatiga of Geospatial Database Management Division-GISMB as support staff; and this writer, also of GISD-GISMB, as documenter. The resource persons were also assisted by select staff from LRDAD and PCRD.
