NAMRIA observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Gender and Development | Jeffrey A. Quodala | 30 November 2023 | Print

NAMRIA, through its Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS), joined the observance of this year's Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM). Through an office memorandum, the wearing of the office uniform was suspended on 26 October 2023. Officials and employees were encouraged to wear office-appropriate attire in pink and use the official BCAM hashtag #WearItPink in their respective social media accounts.

NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD and GFPS Executive Committee Chairperson, Officer in Charge (OIC)-Deputy Administrator (DA) Ofelia T. Castro led the officials and employees in the NAMRIA Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City during the photo shoot held at the stairs of the main building stairs. The other officials seen in the photo shoot were: from the Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) — Dir. Febrina E. Damaso, GFPS Technical Working Group Chairperson and OIC-Asst. Dir. Arlene B. Brillantes, and Geospatial Database Management Division-GISMB Chief Rosal H. Dolanas; from the Resource Data Analysis Branch (RDAB) — OIC-Dir. Sylvia L. Esperanza, Asst. Dir. Violeta A. Quiliza, Land Classification Division-RDAB OIC Renato P. Esperanza, and Physiography and Coastal Resources Division-RDAB Chief Aurea O. Virtudazo; from the Support Services Branch (SSB) — Dir. Concepcion A. Bringas and Administrative Division-SSB Chief, Atty. Jessie M. Racimo; and Chief of Staff Rowena E. Bongalos. There were also pictures taken of those in the Hydrography Branch (HB) in NAMRIA San Nicolas, Manila, including the survey vessels docked at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ), wearing pink to show support to the activity.

BCAM is an annual international health campaign celebrated during the month of October to support breast cancer awareness and research. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide with the Philippines having the greatest number of cases, ranking first, in Asia. This year's theme No one should face breast cancer alone serves as a reminder on the many ways to raise awareness about the prevention, detection, and treatment of breast cancer. The color pink, including the pink ribbon, identifies the wearer with the breast cancer brand. Wearing the color pink expresses moral support for women with breast cancer.
